 1942, 8 November - World War II: North Africa
Rommel has retreated back to Libya.

1956, 8 November
British and French forces halt military operations in the Suez Canal Zone under a UN cease-fire agreement that will replace them with an international peace keeping force.

1952, 8 November
South African police open fire on black rioters, killing 14 and wounding 39, after a beer-hall brawl got out of hand.
