The Evil Called ASUU STRIKE

Today one of the commonest word or phrase that almost every Nigerian student is afraid of is ASUU STRIKE. Right from the kids in Secondary schools to Post Graduate students, ASUU strike which is now becoming an annual event is one of the greatest evils they fervently pray against. It will be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) embarked on another indefinite on 1st of July 2013 in protest of the non implementation of the 2009 agreement by the Nigerian Government. Although the Federal government had agreed to meet some of their needs to a reasonable extent ( i think 80%)the union vowed not to go back to work unless the whole agreement is honored. The question however remains, Why did the Federal government through its representatives sign the 2009 agreement knowing fully well that they could not implement it?. In response to this, the senate president David Mark recently retaliated that those who signed the agreement did not know the consequences of their actions. It may interest you to know that the funds ASUU is clamoring for are readily available in this country. A single Nigerian can comfortably pay the sum of N1.5trl that has kept the nation's future leaders and most active segment of the society at home for almost five years. Look at the wasteful spending of Nigerian government officials, the most recent being that of the Minister of Aviation - Stella Oduah's Amoured car scandal. We however hope that the recent meeting between ASUU and the President himself will yield positive results.
